Live Band or Disc Jockey?

A live band will definitely add a unique touch to your event and provide music for you and your guests to dance along with BUT…

There are a few questions to ask when making this decision:

• Will the band be limited to a specific genre?
• Is the band able to take requests from your guests?
• Can your venue accommodate the area needed for a live band?
• Will the band be able to learn custom written songs for your event?
• Does the band have music to bridge the gap while on break or between sets?

What is your budget?  A reputable live wedding band will cost you between $75 and $100 per hour…per band member!

So, let’s do some quick math…

Your typical wedding band will be a 5 piece band which means you’ll have 5 musicians to pay for their time and effort and the average Wedding reception will last about 5 hours.

So, you take the 5 musicians x 5 hours each and you are left with a $2,500 entertainment expense for your Wedding.

Here are a few side notes:

* Bands usually take longer to set up than a professional disc jockey and usually require a break after between 75 to 90 minutes of playing.

* It is customary that you also provide meals for each of the band members. The same thing goes for hiring a disc jockey.
